Cangzhou Museum and Library
A competition for new museum and library in the new city area of Cangzhou city. These 2 buildings will stand facing each other across the city axis. In center of this axis, there stands a government office building, and around it vast nature park spreads. New buildings should be unified with the green of the park, at the same time it should have the majestic sense of existence suitable for public architecture.
At first a glass box is set as the basic volume, then on the glass curtain wall vertical planting is set up. For interior space this vertical planting will be shade, and for the outer space it lets the architecture unified to the green landscape around, then massive boxes protrude from this green volume. In the museum side, the boxes are made in black granite and on the surface of them the pattern of the ZAJI which is most famous culture in this area is carved. In the library side, for the pattern of the surface several kind colors of sandstone are used at random for expressing the line of books in the bookshelf.
Keeping the symmetry across the city axis and the majesty for the public buildings, this project considers about the circumstance and the energy problem, advocating the new type of architecture for the 21th centrury.
